Solar Inverter – Universal Power Converter (UPC)

Solar Inverter

Notes –

  • The IPC-UPC inverter does not need an isolation transformer, since the input and output are already isolated by the topology. Output line to line and line to ground faults are isolated from the utility interface, and the solar array may be ground referenced while still allowing the converter to be direct connected to a ground referenced utility connection, as is standard practice. The lack of an isolation transformer, along with soft switching, a low loss link reactor, and minimal output filtering results in the UPC’s superior efficiency.
  • Projected, based on simulations.

Observations -

  • The projected 98% efficiency (peak efficiency over 98.5%), combined with a typical $4,000/kW installed solar system cost, gives a cost advantage to the UPC of $140/kW
  • The UPC’s light weight and lack of transformer will assure it of competitive pricing.
